You have probably seen them – the stray, starving animals roaming the streets of Memphis. In recent months you may have seen the stories on the news reporting about the problems that continue to plague our local & national animal shelters. You might have even heard about the excessively high number of animals that are dumped at the Memphis Animal Shelter every year, and the number of innocent cats & dogs that are put to sleep due to the increasingly high intake of abandoned and unwanted animals. The simple facts are that the number of strays picked up and the numbers of animals being relinquished to MAS are higher in certain Memphis neighborhoods.
Spay in the City believes that an aggressive, community-based spay/neuter plan is the answer!
We are: City organizations, community leaders, local agencies, volunteers and community residents working together to make a difference.
We need: Community Support ~ Support from all Animal Control agencies ~ Support from our Community Leaders ~ Support from local Veterinarians
Purpose:
- To unite all concerned citizens to promote and support a Community Spay / Neuter / Vaccinate Initiative.
- To provide spay, neuter and vaccination services to a community and reduce the number of unwanted litters.
Goals:
- To spay, neuter and vaccinate cats and dogs.
- Reduce the number of cats and dogs euthanized in our shelters.
- Reduce the number of stray animals running loose on our streets.
- Reduce the burden on Memphis Animal Services and other shelters and save taxpayer dollars.
We can work together for our companion animals! Join us in working for a better Memphis!
